New Hampshire is taking action to protect Granite Staters from cryptocurrency ATM scams. Over the summer, Senate Bill 482 was signed into law establishing protections for customers scammed into transferring cash to criminals via cryptocurrency ATMs. These machines have become a common target for fraud schemes due to their speed and anonymous transaction capabilities.
Set to take effect December 16, 2026, the new law sets a $2,000 daily transaction limit and a 48-hour hold on transactions made by first‑time customers. During this window, customers can cancel and receive a refund for the entire amount of their first transaction. After the first transaction, customers can receive a full refund as long as they contact the ATM operator and law enforcement within 14 days after the transaction.
