Merrimack County Savings Bank (The Merrimack) is helping to build stronger communities by supporting the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity. Funded through the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA), The Merrimack has pledged $10,000 towards the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Program which provides urgent repairs to low-income homeowners, including seniors, veterans and individuals with disabilities.
“This contribution goes directly towards helping our neighbors and enhancing the communities we serve,” said Linda Lorden, President of The Merrimack. “We appreciate all the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity does to provide safe and affordable housing.”
The Home Repair Program is a critical service to the community by providing essential repairs to homeowners in need of assistance. With a focus on health, life and safety code issues, the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity helps families reclaim their homes with pride and dignity.
“The success of this campaign wouldn’t be possible without support from our local businesses, including The Merrimack,” said Christa Tsechrintzis, Executive Director at Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity. “Not only will we be able to increase the capacity of the program, it will help strengthen our partnerships throughout our service area to assist local residents.”
Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity has been providing safe, decent and affordable housing in the Southern New Hampshire area since 1994. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity works to strengthen families and communities through affordable homeownership and critical home repair opportunities. CDFA tax credits allow businesses to fund qualifying economic or community development projects in exchange for a tax credit that can be applied against state business tax payments. The tax credits are administered by the New Hampshire CDFA. Any business with operations in New Hampshire that contributes to a CDFA tax credit project receives a New Hampshire state tax credit worth 75 percent of their contribution. The credit can be used over a period of five years to reduce the business’ state tax liability (business profits, business enterprise, or insurance premium taxes). The tax credit program allows New Hampshire businesses to use their state tax dollars to support local projects that they care about. CDFA reviews many project applications each year, and awards tax credits to those they determine are feasible and will make the biggest impact on economic development in the state.
